The absence of fur is due to a natural genetic mutation that occurred in China and also in breeds originating in other countries such as Peru or Mexico.
The Chinese Crested dog can be found in two forms – the true hairless or “naked” dog with its characteristic topknot.and plumes of fur on its tail and paws and the Powder Puff or “Houpette” which has a full coat.
